There was a drawing to see who the winners would be for the hats pictured here and Kathy Erb won the first one and Shannon Price won the second.

Now for the major prize (The wire frame Goose Decoy) that was a different story...I think That Rob (shown here with the shotgun my dad had given me years ago) and his son Dalton came up with this idea...Each contestant would draw a shotgun shell from a basket that Rob was holding and then the last one was Rob's. Now all were spent shells except for one...they were however filled with sand and had a sticker on the end so no one knew what was what. Randomly each person would load the chamber, aim and pull the trigger...the one that went "BANG" would of course be the winner.
But before we get to the rest of this story...let me tell you about the Wire Frame Goose Decoy okay? So...Susie and I thought that some sort of decoy would be an appropriate prize for this years banquet and how hard could it be to make one thought I?...Well while I was doing some research I came across this image of an old wire frame duck decoy and we thought...hey...this is really quite unique and so we set our sites on making one...the first attempt was a small Canvass back and we were quite proud of it to the point that Susie refused to part with it so...well we have to make another one right?... but this time I wanted to try a bigger bird...a Canada Goose was the obvious choice. And with the little bit of experience yielded from the making of the Canvass back we had little trouble getting the Goose ready for the banquet (of course it wasn't actually done until about an hour before the shindig was to begin) that night!
Now we think we may have something here (imagine that right?) so...we put some things in place to perhaps help make what we do a bit more unique. So...every decoy will be "Field Tested" before it is signed and numbered.
Below is the very first Wire Frame Goose Decoy being field tested by our authorized "Field Adviser" Rob Hare.

He (the Goose..not Rob) actually performed quite well ...set upright with perhaps a slight list to his right but over all...pretty good for the first time. So let the contest begin!!!!!!
Ralph Wakely...nope...it was a dud and I was really pulling for him too!
Vince Rhodes ...nope...it was a dud and I was really pulling for him too!
Scotty Pounds ...nope...it was a dud and I was really pulling for him too!
Steve Carson ...nope...it was a dud and I was really pulling for him too!
Larry Erb ...nope...it was a dud and I was really pulling for him too!
Jon Hare ...nope...it was a dud and I was really pulling for him too!
Dalton Hare ...nope...it was a dud and I was really pulling for him too!
Farls...nope...it was a dud and I was really pulling for him too!
Bill Hutchinson ...nope...it was a dud and I was really pulling for him too!
Dan List ...nope...it was a dud and I was really pulling for him too!
I think that Dan is thinking..."maybe there's something wrong with this gun?" Now there are only 3 shooters left Rob Hare, Garry Ringler and Brandon Dennis and so they're probably all feeling pretty good about their chances.
Well folks here's the winner believe it or not...Rob Hare himself...congratulations...well done!
So thanks again everyone who has helped us build the North Dakota Hunting Lodge and thanks also for coming out to the banquet and let's all start think about the "THE NEXT TIME"....
